February Happenings

January flew by. I’m happy to report that I’ve been successful in maintaining my goals for 2024. Out of all the habits I’d say I’m enjoy mediation the most. I wasn’t sure what I wanted my topic to be this week and because I couldn’t think of one I decided to just give a generic update.

What I’m reading:

  • “Life 3.0” by Max Tegmark: What sort of future do you want? This book empowers you to join what may be the most important conversation of our time. It doesn’t shy away from the full range of viewpoints or from the most controversial issues—from superintelligence to meaning, consciousness and the ultimate physical limits on life in the cosmos.

What I’m listening to:

  • Audiobooks: The Creative Act A Way of Being (Rick Rubin): I’ve been pleasantly surprised by this book. I think a lot of the things Rubin goes into are applicable to anything you are working on that may necessitate some level of creativity (most things IMO).
  • Music:
    • Tracy Chapman: Dana brought this one to my attention that Tracy Chapman performed Fast Car at the Grammys with Luke Combs. Being the oblivious person I am I gave her a blank stare. After we put on the album I immediately recognized the songs.
    • A Música de Jobim e Vinicius (Elza Laranjeira): 21 Savage recently sampled Serenata do Adeus in his song redrum. I love stumbling upon foreign samples in hip-hop and exploring the artist that was sampled especially when the they’re not something I’m familiar with.
    • St. Jude (Courteeners): Shout out to my co-worker for introducing me to this band.

What I’m drinking:

I decided to treat myself to 12 bottles of whiskey this year. I only purchase a new bottle when I start a new book with the goal of both expanding my knowledge of whiskey and my collection. I just moved on from Vesey’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey (Charleston Distilling Co) to Stranahan’s Original Colorado Single Malt Whiskey. I find Stranahan’s to be smoother and have more subtle notes whereas Vesey’s tastes more like alcohol. My goal is to collect bottles from all of the different distillery’s I’ve been to. Still Austin, Jameson, and Breckenridge are coming up next.

What I’m working on:

  1. Beat the Bookmaker project using AWS, Python, and ChatGPT.
  2. Photography and Photo Editing.
  3. Refinishing an art-deco bar from the 1980’s with Dana.

What I’m looking forward to:

  1. Valentines day with Dana.
  2. Visiting friends in NYC at the end of February.
  3. Philadelphia Flyers push for the playoffs

What is itching my brain:

  1. 2024 Presidential Election
  2. The impact of remote work on commercial real estate and local economies.
  3. AI Chip scarcity and the potential impact to AI development.
